BDO is an acronym for Binder Dijker Otte. These are the names of the European founding members of the international BDO network of independent member firms. 

The BDO AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft was founded on 28 February 1920 as Deutsche Waren-Treuhand-Aktiengesellschaft with its headquarters being located in Hamburg. In 1963, the Binder Seidman International Group was established, largely due to the initiative of Hans-Heinrich Otte. It has laid the foundation for today's international BDO network.

BDO is one of the leading firms for audits and audit-related services, tax and business law consulting as well as general advisory in Germany. BDO offers a wide range of services to all branches, including regulated industries such as banking and financial services or insurance, as well as municipal operators, institutions in the public sector, and non-profit organisations.

More than 3,000 employees work for the BDO AG Wirtschaftsprüfungsgesellschaft in 28 offices in Germany. The international BDO network has more than 115,000 employees in 166 countries.
